This is a list of alternative songs about friendship. There are songs about the pain of losing great friends, parting ways with friends, being able to count on great friends, letting friends they can count on you, saying thank you, and so on.
Ben Harper – Roses For My Friends –
This song has been interpreted many different ways. Some think it is about the death of someone close. Others think it is just about a falling out. Either way, it is about relationship changing from warm to distant.
Alternative Rock – Jimmy Eat World – Hear you me –
A sad song about losing a great friends. It is written about 2 friends who died in a tragic car accident. These 2 girls together used to help Jimmy Eat World and other up and coming bands when they needed it most.

This is a beautiful song and even better live. Its meaning has been summed up as ‘the uncertainty of life and the certainty of friendships’.
Adult Contemporary – Sarah McLachlan – I Will Remember You –
As the title suggests, this is a song about parting ways with friends, wishing them the best for the future and hoping that they will remember you. Sarah McLachlan is well known for her mezzo-soprano vocal range and emotional ballads.
Rap Rock – 311 – Down –
This song provides quite a different way to thank a friend. The chorus lyrics say it all, especially “If I ever didn’t thank you you, Then just let me do it now”.
Pop Punk – Fall Out Boy – Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends –
From the lyrics, many different interpretations can be drawn from the song, such as fame, or how hard it is to make it in the music industry. However, it can also be relevant for having a falling out with a friend.
Gyroscope – What Do I Know About Pain –
Another song that can have multiple interpretations, but again, with lyrics such as “we think the same”, “Girl I can see your pain” and “I’d burn for you” it can be a great song to let a friend know you are there during hard times.
Indie Pop – Black Kids – Love Me Already –
A cute story about being suspicious of your girlfriend and best friend sneaking around when really they are planning your surprise birthday party.
