The Sony PlayStation 4 games console shares much of its hardware technology with the personal computer. We take a look at how it compares with a gaming computer in terms of price and performance.
The PS4 uses a graphics processing unit (GPU) based on the Radeon HD 7000 series of PC graphics cards that are designed by AMD. It has 18 compute units with 64 cores per compute unit, giving it a total of 1,152 cores. This gives the PS4 a theoretical peak performance of 1.84 TFLOPS that can be used for graphics, physics simulation or a combination of the two.
There are several known differences between the PS4’s GPU and the AMD 7870 PC graphics card upon which it is based. The first is that the PS4 unit has a dedicated 20 GB/s bus bypassing the L1 and L2 GPU cache to allow for direct system memory access. Direct memory access (usually shortened to DMA) in this instance serves to speed up the graphics by reducing the number of processes required.
It also has additional L2 cache support for simultaneous graphical and asynchronous computing tasks thanks to the inclusion of a ‘volatile’ bit tag. This allows the machine to process graphics and computational code synchronously, without suspending one to be able to run the other.
Finally the console’s unit has 64 sources compared to two on the PC unit for compute commands. The purpose of this is to allow for superior game-engine integration for developers when writing games for the console.
The question as to whether a PC is better than a PS4 depends of the way in which you carry out the comparison. In this article we look at the comparison from a cost equal standpoint. In a later article we deal with the comparison on an outright performance basis.
Comparable Costs – PC v PS4
If you look at comparable cost, including the costs of the whole system then the console would easily out perform the computer. A PS4 costs around £350 whilst the comparable Radeon 7870 graphics card costs around £150, but to this you would need to add the costs of the components to make up the rest of the computer such a motherboard, processor, memory, hard drive, case and software. To build a gaming computer somewhere around the cost of the Sony console you would end up with a system that is compromised on costs grounds at the expenses of performance. This scenario would without doubt leave you with a PC that can’t match the console in terms of graphical performance.
There are several reasons why this is the case. The first is that games console has a large advantage due to the lack of a resource hogging operating system such as Windows. A PC needs to be able to do a lot of things, often simultaneously. To allow this, the operating system needs to be comprehensive, often taking a lot of the machines free resources just to run. A console’s operating system will be a fraction of a PC or Mac computer, meaning that much more of the available power on a PS4 is free to be devoted to running games. This allows the PlayStation to get away with a lower overall specification while still being able to maintain performance.
The second is that the manufacturers producing consoles often sell at a loss due to the need to gain market share and out sell their rivals. This is especially true at the early stages of a console’s life when development costs are being recouped. The PS4 v Xbox One is one of the biggest sales battles in the technology market which looks set to continue for many years to come. It is obviously difficult to compete with a product that is subsidised by its manufacturer.
Cost is not only the consideration when comparing the two. Computer users often have the rest of their system in place so more funds are available to spend on the graphics hardware alone, whilst to some outright performance is the only consideration. The main image is the first thing customers see. Since it appears as the thumbnail image when a shopper searches for a product, this picture will determine whether the customer even clicks on your listing. It's important that it stands up to the competition!
Amazon has strict standards for the main image. Here's a quick summary:
– Must be edited to have a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255).
– Must contain the full product, and ONLY the product. No confusing additional objects.
– Must be a professional-quality image: in focus, full color, and well-lit. No dark, grainy, or blurry images.
– Must fill 85% of frame or more.
– No additional text, graphics, or inset images.
All those rules can be hard to keep track of, but it's necessary to do so. If the main photo is not up to Amazon's standards, your listing could be suspended, costing you lots of time, stress, and money!
Beyond that, I suggest shooting the product from straight on-no weird angles. Make sure the lighting is natural looking and that the product appears true to color in the photo. Check out your competition, if possible. Imitate the photos that look and perform the best on Amazon. Also, pretend you are the customer. Which listings make you want to click? How can you arrange the product to make it look its best?
The supporting images count, too! I suggest adding 5 to 8 photos that showcase the product in different ways. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your supporting images:
Show the Scale-Supporting images allow you to use backgrounds or other objects in order to showcase the size and scale of the product. Think everyday life and where / when / how your product will be used. If it requires snow – find snow! Does it go on a car? Head out to the garage. One of the easiest things to do is simply ask someone to hold it while you take a picture. Hands are a great way to demonstrate scale.
For example, I recently had to photograph a finger brace with lots of confusing straps and Velcro pieces. First of all, the product simply did not photograph well on its own-it just looked like a jumbled pile of Velcro. Plus, it was hard to figure out how the brace fit onto a hand. That photo shoot definitely required a hand model, both to make the product look good and to inform consumers on how to use it.
Use Informational Graphics-Although graphics of any kind are prohibited in the main image of an Amazon listing, you're allowed to use them in your selected images. You can use text and arrows to point out the features and benefits of the product and show its exact dimensions. You can also add badges (such as "Quality Guaranteed" or "BPA Free") which I highly suggest doing.
Get Some Close-ups-This is especially important if the product has lots of detail or an interesting surface finish. Texture, quality, and luxurious materials all benefit from clean, clear, close-ups!
Use a Model-Not every product requires a model, but in my opinion – 99.9% should have one. The .01% of listings I am letting off the hook involve clear poly bags, and even that is a stretch. It is my professional opinion that every product listing benefits from a model. Your model may be a child, adult, or animal. Consumers can put themselves into the model's shoes and picture themselves using your product. This type of psychology immediately increases conversion. I suggest using realistic models because you want to showcase the product, not the person. So, do not worry if you can not afford a glamorous supermodel, your girlfriend, grandmother, husband, or neighbor down the street will do just fine.

New products are on their way from Apple. The tech firm made it clear they have lots of items in their pipeline at their WWDC Conference this month.
First off is the company’s answer to Amazon’s Echo and Google’s Home called the HomePod. It is a seven inch device that will integrate Siri into an Echo/Home like case. You can use it to check the news, weather and control your smart home devices.
HomePod will offer an enhanced music experience. A feature called “Musicologist” will work with Apple music and stream the songs you request from Siri. The sound is designed to fill the room and take it to a level beyond what Amazon and Google are offering.
The device will be available in black or white. Price is around $349. The launch date is anticipated in December just in time for the holiday season.
Need a new desktop? Apple is updating its iMac with improved retina displays, a boost in graphics, Kaby Lake processors and a USB-C plug-in.
An iMac Pro is also on the way. This high-end machine has a 5K display with improved cooling capacity, and 8-core Xeon processor which is upgradeable up to 18-core. It also includes up to 4TB of SSD, up to 128GB of ECC memory, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, and built-in 10GB Ethernet.
Pricing is what you would expect from Apple. The new iMac starts at $1,099 for the 21.5-inch model, and $1,299 for the 4K model. MacBook Pro starts at $1,299, which includes the updated Kaby Lake processor. For those with deep pockets the iMac Pro with the Xeon processor starts at a whopping $4,999. The iPad Pro supports USB 3.0 with 10 hours of battery life. A new feature called ProMotion reduces the Apple Pencil’s latency to 20 milliseconds. It adjusts the refresh rate based on what you are watching and can double it up to 120Hz. The 10.5 inch iPad Pro starts with a 64GB configuration. Pricing begins at $649. You can pick one up now.
Also of note is Apple’s new operating system, iOS11. It is in beta stage and has been released to developers. One area it will improve is multitasking on the iPad. Users will be able to pull up an app from the dock and drag it onto the screen in split-screen version. Like a MacBook you can use touch to hold and drag folders, files or photos. You can even drop them in a different app such as Mail or iMessage. The Apple Pencil will also enable handwritten text to be searchable from the Notes app.
The Apple Watch is also getting a “face lift”. New faces will display new bits of information such as Siri reminders. A Fitness Focus update provides NFC-enabled data sharing with gym equipment. Pair the two and you get the latest calorie burn and activity level.
Apple is letting developers know their tree is full of interesting new products and upgrades. It will be interesting to watch how the public responds in this latest round of Apple picking.

Are you sick of all the cords and bulky add-ons you have to deal with when purchasing a PC? I was and that's why I decided it was time to go for style, quality and longevity. Style, Quality and longevity are how I describe my Apple iMac 27 inch All-In-One Desktop to those who will listen. I switched to Mac last year and I have not looked back! Also, I have not had any issues as I did with all my window based PC's.
I can not say enough about the Apple iMac 27 inch I purchased, seriously. It is just absolutely beautiful. The configuration of the iMac I purchased was a bit pricey, but worth every penny. I Built on the 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 4GB, 1TB Serial ATA Drive, ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 SDRAM, Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad. Even though this is not the very high-end of the iMac, it's just perfect for me.
What I love about my iMac is that it's a brilliant machine right out of the box. I have yet to put on a PC and have it work right out of the box. In my experience, you have to do 9 million things to get your PC to work the way you want it to work. That alone is worth looking at the iMac All-In-One Desktop.

When a person has band bariatric surgery it is considered a weight loss surgery. These surgeries are used to help reduce the size of your stomach. A bariatric surgeon can accomplish this in two different ways. It can be done either with adjustable gastric band (AGB) or vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG). Either of these two surgeries are accomplished by using a belt to separate part of your stomach into a smaller pouch.
Adjustable gastric band
With this bariatric surgery it is performed by laparoscopic surgery, which is when the surgery is done using a small camera that can be used to visualize the surgical area and is minimally invasive surgery. It is frequently referred to as lap-band surgery. The bariatric surgeon will make two or three small incisions in your abdominal area. The gastric band is then threaded through one of the incisions and wrapped around the top of your stomach. It is then tightened to create a small food pouch. These band are expandable so any adjustments that need to be made are done by filling the band with saline. It is done by injecting the saline solution into a port that the bariatric surgeon left during the surgery. The port is usually anchored just below the skin to the muscles in your diaphragm.
Vertical banded gastroplasty
This surgery uses a bariatric band in conjuction with surgical staples. A hole is cut into your stomach with the bariatric band being placed through this hole. It is then wrapped around the outside of your stomach to help slow down digesting by restricting the size of the exit which food passes through. After the bariatric surgeon has the band in place the section above the band is separated from the rest of your stomach using a row of surgical staples. The pouch that results from the separation hold between one and two of food. By combining the reduced size of usable stomach and the gastric band you will often feel satisfied on less food for a protracted length of time. This type of surgery is often referred to as stomach stapling.
Either band band surgery has risks associated with the surgery. You can have post-operative infection and pain, which are the most common complaints heard. With poor diet choices and reduced consumption of food could also lead to dehydration and malnutrition. Sometimes the bands can slip, causing pain and internal damage in rare cases. These slippages will often require corrective surgery. Patients who have either surgery are asked to see the procedure as a tool to help them lose weight but not the solution.
